Lūmm Inc. ("Lūmm", "we", "us") is a custom lighting studio in Toronto, Ontario. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its principles for the fair handling of personal information.
Who is responsible
Lūmm Inc. is responsible for the personal information we hold. Our Privacy Officer answers questions about this policy and handles requests. You can reach them at lighting@lumm.ca.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry through our contact form, we collect:
- Your name and email address. These are required, so we can reply.
- Optional details you choose to give us. Your phone number, company or studio, role, the type of space, your timeline, what you need and your message.
- Technical details sent with the form, such as your IP address and browser. Our website host, Netlify, uses these to filter out spam.
Please do not send sensitive information, such as financial or health details, through the form.
When you browse the site, our website host, Netlify, keeps standard technical logs: your IP address, browser, the pages requested and the time. We do not use these logs to identify you.
If you accept analytics in our cookie banner, we also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It records the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that sent you, your general location (city or region), and your device, browser and screen size. It identifies your browser with a random number in a cookie, not with your name or email address. Google uses your IP address to estimate your location, then discards it. If you decline, Google Analytics does not run. Our Cookie policy has the details.
Why we collect it
We use your information to:
- read and reply to your enquiry, arrange a consultation and prepare a proposal
- manage a project with you if you become a client
- see which pages people read and improve the site, if you accept analytics
- protect the site and our inbox from spam and abuse
- meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing emails unless you ask us to, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Your consent
By sending us an enquiry, you consent to us using your information for the purposes above. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing lighting@lumm.ca, subject to legal or contractual limits. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to continue working with you on a project.
We only use Google Analytics if you accept it in the cookie banner. You can withdraw that consent at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of any page. Declining does not change how the site works for you.
Who we share it with
Your information is seen only by the Lūmm team members who handle enquiries and projects. We share it with service providers who help us run our business, and only as much as they need:
- Netlify, Inc., which hosts the website and receives contact form submissions on our behalf
- our email provider, which delivers enquiry notifications to our studio inbox
- Google LLC, which provides Google Analytics, if you accept analytics. We use it only to measure the site. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, so the data is not used for advertising.
- professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, when needed
If you become a client, we may share project details with the designers, contractors and fabricators working on your project, with your knowledge. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Where it is stored
Netlify stores the website and contact form submissions on servers in the United States and other countries. Our email provider may also store information outside Canada, and Google processes analytics data in the United States and other countries. Information held outside Canada may be accessed by the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of those countries under their laws. We choose providers that protect information to a standard comparable to Canadian law.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for up to two years after our last contact with you. If an enquiry becomes a project, we keep the project records for as long as we need them for warranty, legal, tax and accounting purposes. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months, then deleted automatically.
How we protect it
We protect personal information with safeguards suited to its sensitivity. These include an encrypted connection to the site, access limited to team members with their own passwords, a public website with no database or sign-in on it, and providers who keep their systems secure. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it when we no longer need it. Email lighting@lumm.ca and we will reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Children
Our website and services are intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Other websites
Our site links to Instagram and LinkedIn. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them. Google's privacy policy, at policies.google.com/privacy, explains how Google handles analytics data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
